Wednesday, August 1st, 2007
IBM Corp announced today that it will be consolidating about 3900 servers on to roughly 30 System Z mainframes running the Linux operating system.
Using a technique called virtualization, IBM plans to divide the massive computing power of a the single mainframes into hundreds or thousands of smaller virtual servers thereby saving enough energy to power a small town. The consolidation will also free a large number of IBM’s system administrators to work on more profitable projects.
